A little about me is that I am a United States Marine Corps Veteran who supported both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. I have been employed with the Madera Unified School District for 9 years. I started my journey while actively working in the Public Safety industry working full-time and teaching part-time. I finally decided to hang up the cuffs and dove head first into my new journey. A little about my background is that I have over 20 years of law enforcement experience including patrol, corrections, and military service. I served in several capacities including patrol, correctional officer, gang detective, gang expert, field training officer, field supervisor, and general crimes detective. I currently instruct three of the four Public Safety courses, including Introduction to Public Safety, Protective Services Academy (PSA), and the Dual Enrollment/ROP Criminal Justice course in which the students receive college credit from Madera Community College. I am proud to serve the community of Madera. I enjoy helping students create a solid foundation for their further careers. I strongly believe in our mission to provide students with all the necessary tools to become both college and career-ready. Thank you for this opportunity.

I am an avid reader, programmer, gamer, and terrible martial artist. My engagement with literature began not in the pages of traditional books, but in the densely packed paragraphs of video game manuals, lore-filled guidebooks, and the digital forums dedicated to the gaming community. These immersive worlds and the narratives that grew around them ignited a passion for storytelling that was not confined to the traditional canons of literature.

My fascination with words expanded as I came to realize that English Language Arts (ELA) is not limited to the old narratives and poems that are typically associated with the subject. Rather, ELA is a lens through which we can dissect the world around us. It provides the tools to analyze not only classical literature but also modern movies, music, comics, and every form of communication that threads through our society.

This expansive perspective on communication fueled my interest in rap and hip-hop music. These genres are rich with storytelling and community building, aspects that I deeply explored during my graduate studies. I was fascinated by how these music genres bring together diverse communities and provide a platform for impactful messages.

Outside of the academic realm, I enjoy doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a discipline that I practice 1-2 times a week. I also find tranquility in gardening alongside my wife. Gaming continues to be a cherished hobby, specifically PC video games. I also channel my fascination with language into programming, where code acts as a unique language that brings digital worlds to life. In essence, I am a lifelong learner, continuously exploring new narratives, whether they are in books, video games, music, or the world around me.

I came to teaching late in life as a second career. After working in the private sector for over 15 years I decided I wanted to have more to show for my existence than a lifetime sitting behind a desk. Taking inspiration from my mom and third-grade teacher who adopted me when I needed a home, I enrolled in the credential program at CSU Fresno. It turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made.

This may come as a shock, but I love to read and do my best to pass that love of stories on to my students. I also play the electric guitar and on occasion the answer to the question “what is that racket in academic B?” is me, I’m the source of the racket.

I play Dungeons & Dragons with some of the other staff members as well as co-advising the campus Dungeons and Dragons club. I enjoy cooking and have even created some of my own recipes and I like to hike when I get the chance.

I’ve been lucky enough to be part of the MSHS family for going on eight years now and I’m looking forward to many more.

I went to the College of the Sequoias in Visalia before transferring to Fresno City and finally ending up at Fresno State where I got my B.S. in Agricultural Education. A few years later, I went back to Fresno State and earned my Biological Sciences certification and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
I currently live in Fresno with my husband and two daughters. When I am not working, I enjoy reading books, listening to music, watching movies, as well as swimming, and going on trips with my family. I am very passionate about and I volunteer as a foster parent for the Fresno Humane Animal Services. If you pop into my classroom, there is a strong possibility that you will find something to pet or cuddle.

I started my teaching career at Madera South during the 2013-2014 school year. I think of Madera South as my home and I enjoy coming to school each day with the full intention of providing meaningful lessons and projects that will get my students interested in Science. As I walk into my classroom, I think of all the moments when I had a student ask me insightful questions about their interesting findings, when they were engaging in academic conversations or the moments when they were excitedly exploring phenomena in a lab investigation. I feel inspired by the times in which I encounter former students during my daily activities; all can say is that I am happy that I was in a way part of their family since they always greet me as such for being there each day during the school year. I am thankful for all of the students that I have, and I hope that the work that I do each day will make a positive impact in the community and change lives for the better. I believe that we should never give up no matter what difficulties we encounter and that we must stay true to ourselves and who we truly are!

I am from Ripon, CA. My parents were immigrants from Mexico (Michoacan and Jalisco). They worked in the fields. Spanish was my first language. I started learning English when we participated in Head Start at the age of 3. I have younger sisters – I am the oldest. I went to UC Davis and obtained my bachelor’s degree in molecular and cellular biology. I minored in Ancient Western Civilizations. I was the first in my family to go to college. I was very proud. Then, I went to Houston, Texas to grad school to take classes in immunology and genetics. I moved to Madera in December 2004 while pregnant with my first child, Melanie. My husband joined the Navy in 2008. He was in boot camp when I found out I was pregnant with my son, Angel. He stayed there for seven years stationed at San Diego. I stayed in Madera with my in-laws (Nayarit, Mexico). I worked in social service-type agencies where I could help others by doing community outreach and education. I later worked for UC Merced under their NASA grant. I went back to substitute teaching in 2017. It was then that I discovered a love for teaching. While subbing for Madera South, I went to Fresno Pacific to obtain my teaching credential in 2022. I now teach Chemistry at Madera High School. I love what I do. I like helping students learn and also helping them grow as mature successful adults. I like to read and watch movies. I enjoy spending time with my family. I am also a breast cancer survivor. I worked during treatment because I still wanted to be there for my students. I hope I can encourage students to make good choices and know that their beginnings don’t have to determine their future.

I’m an Art teacher in the Visual and Performing Arts Dept. I currently teach Art 1 and Ceramics, but I’ve taught just about every subject we offer. I am a Madera Alumni and I get to teach in the same classroom I once had art in! I attended Fresno State as a Smittcamp Scholar for my undergrad and then again for my teaching credential. I chose to become an Art teacher to help our students grow into themselves, learn more about the world and others, and to help them discover more about themselves through their exploration in the arts. I enjoy animation, making art, planting California native plants and making the world a better place with both art and plants!

My name is Adam Mena. I was born and raised in Fresno, CA. My passion and love for the arts began when I was in high school. I was always interested in making things with my hands and I enjoyed the DIY aspect of creating things. After I finished high school I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree from SDSU in Furniture and Woodwork Design. I received my Master’s Degree in Sculpture from Fresno State and my teaching credential from Fresno Pacific University. I am currently in my 10th year of teaching at Madera South High School. I am the Art Department Chair, Link Crew advisor, and Sk8 Club advisor. I teach Ceramics 1, Ceramics 2, and Link Crew.
Along with teaching, I am very involved in the Fresno & Madera Art Community. I owned and operated Fresno Arthouse Gallery in downtown Fresno for 5 years and I was on the Board of Directors at Arte Americas for 3 years. I had the opportunity to work with many local artists and world-renowned artists. I currently work part-time as an art installer around the Central Valley.
Aside from being involved with the local art community, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy skateboarding, snowboarding, listening to music, gardening and swimming. Overall, my love and passion for teaching is growing constantly because of my wonderful students and this amazing community. My goal as a teacher is to create relationships with all my students, provide opportunities for students to have a voice on campus, and to create art that expresses themselves while being in a fun and safe learning environment.
