Hello, my name is Amanda Delerio, and I, currently, teach Sophomore English and Sophomore English (Honors), here at Madera South. I have been lucky enough to teach at M.S.H.S. for a few years, and it has been fabulous! Our students are some of the most sincere and respectful young people I have ever worked with, and I can’t wait to see the amazing things our students create this year.

Hi! I’m Rebecca Douglas and I am teaching English and Community Leadership at Madera South. I believe that every student that walks into my classroom can learn and it is my job to help them learn in the best way for them. I strive to guide and educate students to push past obstables and continue towards the path of their success. I aspire to help all students find their own voice and follow the words of Ted Lasso “be curious, not judgmental.” When I am not working, I enjoy travelling and doing outdoor activities (camping, hiking, etc) with my family.

I came to teaching late in life as a second career. After working in the private sector for over 15 years I decided I wanted to have more to show for my existence than a lifetime sitting behind a desk. Taking inspiration from my mom and third-grade teacher who adopted me when I needed a home, I enrolled in the credential program at CSU Fresno. It turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made.
This may come as a shock, but I love to read and do my best to pass that love of stories on to my students. I also play the electric guitar and on occasion the answer to the question “what is that racket in academic B?” is me, I’m the source of the racket.
I play Dungeons & Dragons with some of the other staff members as well as co-advising the campus Dungeons and Dragons club. I enjoy cooking and have even created some of my own recipes and I like to hike when I get the chance.
I’ve been lucky enough to be part of the MSHS family for going on eight years now and I’m looking forward to many more.

Valerie Shelton is an English and Historical Literacy teacher at Madera South High School. Before teaching, Mrs. Shelton worked in the journalism industry for 10 years as a reporter and editor for various weekly newspapers in the Fresno area. In 2017, she received a first-place award from the California News Publishers Association for a feature article published in The Clovis Roundup. Shelton’s passion for journalism and creative non-fiction stems from her love of history and her desire to be part of preserving today’s history in the making. As a teacher, she is dedicated to bringing real-world experiences into the classroom and is an advocate for Project-Based Learning. Shelton holds a B.A. in Mass Communication and Journalism, a credential in English, and an M.A. in Teaching. She is currently working toward a Graduate Certificate in Ethnic Studies and a supplemental credential in History. Her hobbies include reading, writing, singing obnoxiously loud, and guzzling vats of coffee. She lives in Fresno with her husband Ben, energetic 4-year-old daughter Madelynn, and long-haired dachshund Rory.
