Greetings! I’m a dedicated educator with a passion for Social Science, boasting an impressive 27-year teaching journey. My expertise lies in teaching Civics and Economics, where I’ve strived to ignite curiosity and critical thinking in countless young minds. Beyond the classroom, my love for sports has been a constant companion. I’ve worn many hats in the volleyball realm – from playing and coaching to my current role as an officiator. The thrill of the game and the lessons it imparts seamlessly complement my educational endeavors. Off the court, I’ve proudly celebrated 33 wonderful years of marriage, standing strong alongside my cherished partner. Together, we’ve raised a beautiful family of four incredible children, each a unique source of pride and joy. As a testament to the blessings of time, I’m also thrilled to embrace the role of a doting grandparent to an adorable granddaughter. Life’s journey has shaped me into a compassionate educator, a passionate sports enthusiast, a devoted spouse, and a loving parent and grandparent. My name is Travis McEowen, and I am an educator with a passion for U.S. History. Now in my 8th year teaching at Madera South High School, I have a deep commitment to nurturing my students’ growth and fostering a sense of civic responsibility and engagement in them. Throughout my teaching career, I’ve developed a knack for innovative teaching strategies, which I use to bring history alive for my students. I always aim to inspire curiosity and critical thinking in them, encouraging a deeper dive into the past to better understand the present and shape their future. Aside from teaching, I’ve spent the past seven years coaching the girls’ volleyball team at Madera South. It’s here that I extend my leadership beyond academics, using the platform of sport to instill essential life skills in my players, such as teamwork, perseverance, and resilience. It’s deeply gratifying to see the lasting impact these lessons have on their lives, both on and off the court. Beyond my professional life, I am a devoted family man. My wife and our two daughters are my world. Our shared moments, from grand adventures to quiet afternoons at home, are the ones I cherish the most. It’s these family bonds that shape my approach in the classroom and on the court, adding a level of empathy and patience to my interactions. In both my professional and personal life, I aim to blend my dedication and passion to create a positive impact. I believe my commitment to teaching, coaching, and family not only makes me a better person but also contributes significantly to the Madera South community.

I am currently in my tenth year teaching at Madera South. I was raised in Madera and lived in the community for 30 years. I have 3 kids ages 15, 3, and 15 months that keep me busy after work. I love to read anything historical, listen to anything rock, and watch anything that has to do with history or thrillers. I am a nerd at heart playing board and card games. I always look to perfect my teaching skills and strategies so that I can continue to serve the Madera Community.

As an educator, I have been privileged to witness my students’ intellectual growth, witnessing them become critical thinkers and compassionate individuals. In the classroom, I have strived to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment where students feel encouraged to express their thoughts and ideas. Through thought-provoking discussions and interactive activities, I aim to make the study of social sciences captivating and relevant to their lives. It brings me immense joy to see my students develop a deeper understanding of historical events, societal structures, and cultural dynamics. In addition to my role as a teacher, my passion for water sports has led me to embrace coaching positions as the Head Coach for boys water polo and Head Swim Coach. Over the years, I have had the privilege of guiding and inspiring young athletes, helping them discover their true potential in the water. Witnessing their growth, both as swimmers and individuals, has been incredibly fulfilling. My commitment to education and coaching remains unwavering, and I continue to strive towards making a positive impact in the lives of my students and athletes. As we journey together through the realm of academia and sports, I aim to instill not only knowledge and skills but also life lessons that will stay with them long after they leave my classroom and the pool. With each passing year, I am reminded of the profound influence that educators and coaches can have on shaping the future of our society, and I eagerly look forward to many more years of making a difference in the lives of those I have the privilege to teach and mentor.

As a high school history teacher, I bring a unique perspective to the classroom, shaped by my past experiences and passions. Before stepping into the world of education, I served in the Navy, where I developed a profound appreciation for discipline, teamwork, and the value of history in shaping the course of human events. My fascination with history extends beyond the textbooks. I am an avid enthusiast of strategy games, which I believe offer valuable insights into critical thinking, problem-solving, and historical decision-making. I often draw parallels between the strategies employed in these games and real-world historical events, making my lessons engaging and thought-provoking for my students. Outside of school, I lead a joyful family life. I am happily married and share my home with a loving menagerie of three cats and two dogs. Their playful antics and unwavering loyalty brighten my days and remind me of the importance of compassion, responsibility, and understanding in every aspect of life. In the classroom, I am known for my dynamic teaching style, weaving captivating stories of the past that transport my students back in time. My commitment to fostering a love for history goes beyond facts and dates; I encourage my pupils to question, analyze, and interpret the events that shaped civilizations. Through lively discussions and interactive activities, I empower my students to develop their critical thinking skills and embrace history as a relevant and engaging subject. With a passion for education, a deep love for history, and a heartwarming family life, I am not only a cherished teacher but also an inspiring role model for my students. My dedication to shaping young minds and fostering a lifelong love for learning leaves a lasting impact on the lives I touch.
